What started with a spontaneous decision to cool off landed him in hot water.

“To me, it looked like a display home, I didn’t think anyone lived there, so I just decided I was hot and thought I’d go for a swim,” Matt told 7NEWS in an exclusive interview.

But Matt didn’t just sneak in one quick dip — he took at least four separate swims, all caught on security cameras.

What started as a casual splash quickly went viral after the homeowners called him out online.

“It’s just a sense of entitlement from this man,” said Holly Stevens, the homeowner.

And it left her and her family feeling threatened and vulnerable.

Speaking to 7NEWS, Matt insists it was a spontaneous decision, and it was never his intent to cause harm or make anyone feel unsafe.

“To be honest, I didn’t sleep for a couple of days,” he admitted.

“I didn’t mean to make anyone feel unsafe.”

After the incident went viral, he deleted his social media and even briefly left Brisbane, fearing the worst.

“I thought I was going to jail for swimming in someone’s pool,” he said.

On Sunday, Matt turned himself into police.

“They just gave me a caution and told me not to do it again,” he said, still feeling the heat from his closest friends and family.

“My cousins have been calling up and asking if I want to go for a swim at theirs.

“And my mates have been saying, ‘Yeah, come round for a swim, bro.’”

While Matt has attempted to apologise to the homeowners, they are yet to respond.

As for his infamous stretches by the pool, Matt stands by his routine.

“It’s my regular pool stretch,” he says, laughing.

“I highly recommend it to anyone… just not in a pool that isn’t yours.”
