The event was seen from different vantage points all over the CBD, including patrons dining at Joey’s restaurant who got a frightening front row seat.
Videos posted online show scared customers running as the wind swept through next to them, bending trees and sending objects flying.
A trail of destruction was left in the wake of the phenomenon, with trees knocked down and sections of the footpath roped off to the public.
One local told Sunrise that the event has been “very scary” and they were frightened they would be swept towards the river.
Others said it was not something they would soon forget.
