A man has been seriously injured when a tree fell and crushed an excavator, trapping him inside.

The man, believed to be aged in his 80s, was using the excavator at a Burrum Heads home when the tree fell just after 3pm on Friday.

The man was trapped and needed to be freed from the excavator before paramedics could treat him for “significant leg injuries”, Queensland Ambulance said.

His injuries are so severe a rescue helicopter has been sent to take him to hospital, QA said.

His current condition is unknown.
