While working security at Surfer Paradise nightclubs, Graeme Curren told 7NEWS he has been assaulted by drunk and disorderly patrons, and fears the $3 drink deal will only make things worse.

“I think i’ts a terrible idea, they’re just going to keep drinking” he said.

“It might be good for the club, but it’s going to be terrible for the security because they’ll have to control the situation, and you will get violence.”

Since the start of the year, there have been 269 assaults on the Surfers Paradise nightclub strip, according to police.

Gold Coast Councillor Darren Taylor told 7NEWS that alcohol is the cause for some of the “biggest” problems plaguing the Surfers Paradise strip.

“Intoxication is one of our biggest problems through any of our night area,” he said.

“It has improved over the years, we have some really good operators (in the area) so it’s important that they abide by Liquor License Laws and I think all establishments must adhere to that.”

Under the 1992 Liquor Act, licensed establishments must not advertise or allow anyone to advertise the sale price of liquor for consumption on the relevant premises, or promote the availability of liquor, for consumption on the relevant premises, at a price less than that normally charged for the liquor.

The office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) has organised a meeting with Surfers Paradise bar operators to discuss drink deals and other issues, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

The OLGR and Fabric Nightclub have been contacted for comment.
