A teenage boy has been taken into custody after stabbing a supermarket worker in a busy shopping centre in Queensland on Monday.

Detectives have charged the young boy following a wounding incident at Yamanto.

At around 5.22pm, a 13-year-old boy allegedly approached a staff member at a supermarket near Warwick Road and stabbed her with a knife.

It will be further alleged the boy fled the scene before he was detained by members of the public nearby a short time later.

First aid was rendered to the woman by attending police crews before she was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where it understood she remains in a critical condition.

The boy was taken into custody and has been charged with attempt to murder.

He is due to appear before Ipswich Childrens Court on Tuesday.
