Two teenage boys managed to escape the fire, while emergency responders rescued the two-year-old girl and the 13-year-old girl from inside the house.

Both girls were rushed to Townsville University Hospital in critical condition but died from their injuries.

Investigations into the circumstances of the fire are ongoing. It continues to be treated as non-suspicious.

Officers are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have relevant information that could assist to come forward.

A GoFundMe has since been launched to support the children’s mother, Karah, as she faces the overwhelming aftermath of the tragedy.

“We are coming together to support Karah, a devoted nurse and single mother of four, whose life was turned upside down by a tragic house fire,” the fundraiser reads.

“In a matter of moments, the fire destroyed her home and displaced her entire family. Even more heartbreaking, her two youngest children were severely injured...While Karah has spent her career caring for others, she is now facing the unimaginable.”

At the time of reporting, over $83,000 has been raised for the family, with funds going towards ongoing treatment, temporary housing and living costs, clothing and essential items as well as recovery and rebuilding after the fire.
