“Bronwyn was a much-loved member of our team and her loss is profoundly felt in our newsroom and across far north Queensland.”

Farr joined the News Corp-owned Cairns Post in 2020 after a career in journalism dating back to 1987.

She started as a reporter in northwest Queensland before moving to Sydney with newswire Australian Associated Press (AAP) in 1992.

She held a variety of roles at AAP over more than nine years, reporting on general and international news and spending time on the racing desk as a thoroughbred and breeding reporter.

She remained in Sydney to work in the horseracing industry, before returning to journalism with The Land in 2010.

After spending time in marketing and public relations, she joined the Cairns Post where she “developed a network of contacts and trust within the city”, Harrington said.

“Few could understand complicated reporting like Bronwyn,” she said.

“She could dissect 100-page reports within minutes and have the story filed within the hour.”

Farr’s funeral is being held on Friday in Cairns.
