Two Queensland police officers hit by car on the Gold Coast

Police have released footage of a car smashing into a officer after they attempted to stop the car.

Two Queensland police officers have been injured when they were hit by a car they were trying to stop on the Gold Coast.

The officers heard “loud revving, screeching, and heavy acceleration” coming from a carpark on Casino Dr in Broadbeach about 6pm on Tuesday, a police spokesperson said.

They walked over and asked the driver to stop and turn off the car but the driver sped off, the spokesman said.

The car initially hit one officer, before heading toward the exit where it hit the second officer on the way out.

“As it left the area, the suspect vehicle drove on the wrong side of the road causing pedestrians to jump out of the way,” the spokesperson said.

Both police officers were taken to hospital with minor injuries and are “currently recovering,” the spokesperson said.

Police said investigations to locate the driver and vehicle are continuing.

Anyone with information or who may have seen the vehicle driving in the area around that time is asked to come forward.
