A tense moment occurred when a United Airlines 777 experienced engine failure shortly after crossing paths with Princess Anne’s flight.

United Airlines flight UA97 bound for San Francisco, USA, was forced to stop on the runway at Brisbane Airport after its left engine reportedly caught fire during takeoff.

The Boeing 777 had began its takeoff roll on the western runway but did not lift off and came to a halt.

Moments earlier, Princess Anne had touched down in Queensland’s capital on board a commercial Qantas flight from Sydney, NSW.

Following her visit to Sydney, the princess travelled to Brisbane to lay a wreath at the Gallipoli Barracks for Remembrance Day.

The aircraft carrying the Royal was taxiing to the gate, when the two planes crossed paths on the tarmac.

Firefighters were quickly on scene, and aerial footage captured crews responding to the disabled aircraft.

“There are no reported injuries at this time,” United Airlines told 7NEWS.com.au.

The legacy runway was closed for routine maintenance, leaving the temporary blockage to delay flights in and out of the airport.

United said the pilots “received an engine indication prior to takeoff”.

The airline is providing passengers with hotel accommodation and rebooking them on other flights.

Brisbane Airport confirmed operations have returned to normal.

“A Boeing 777 was temporarily disabled on the western runway following an engine issue during takeoff,” a spokesperson said.

“The aircraft later relocated off the runway under its own power.

“Two aircraft were diverted to the Sunshine Coast and one to the Gold Coast.

“All operations have returned to normal and there were no injuries.”

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said it had been notified of the rejected takeoff and is gathering further information.
