A woman has been assaulted while walking through a popular national park on the Gold Coast.

The 38-year-old was grabbed from behind by an unknown male in the Burleigh Heads National Park about 5.30pm on Friday.

She was then physically assaulted by the man before two members of the public, a man and a woman, stepped in.

The offender then fled on foot in a northern direction back towards the lookout.

The woman suffered minor physical injuries.

Police are appealing to the man and woman who helped the victim to get in contact.

Anyone with information, including any relevant footage or dashcam vision of the area around Burleigh Heads National Park and Goodwin Tce, is also urged to come forward.
