Trigger warning: This article contains allegations of child abuse

A woman has been charged with the abuse and torture of a child with police describing the case as one of the worst alleged physical abuse cases they’d ever seen.

The 32-year-old woman was arrested after a tip-off from a member of the public who saw a young four-year-old girl suffering significant injuries.

The girl was taken to Logan Hospital where she was found to have extensive injuries, including bruising, burns, fractures, and disfigurement.

Investigations uncovered evidence of sustained and severe physical abuse inflicted upon her over an extended period of time, police said.

“The alleged physical abuse this little girl endured is amongst the worst I have seen in my career,” Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis said.

“The initial response of general duties officers, coupled with the comprehensive investigation by CPIU detectives, saved this child’s life.”

The woman allegedly attempted to hide the child and her injuries by moving her around to different addresses.

“This case highlights the importance of community vigilance. If members of the public are aware of or suspect (anything), they are encouraged to report it to police,” Ellis said.

The woman was arrested on January 24 and charged with multiple offences including assault and torture.

She was denied bail and is due to appear at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on March 19.
