A teacher and her one‑year‑old daughter have been found dead inside their family home in Logan, Queensland, moments after the child’s father was struck by a car in what police believe was a deliberate act.

Emergency services were first called to Loganlea Rd on Thursday morning to what appeared to be a traffic crash, after a 39‑year‑old man was hit by a passing vehicle.

He was quickly identified as nearby resident Blake Seers — and when officers went to notify his family, they instead uncovered a suspected double murder.

Inside the home, Seers’ partner Kate Paterson, a young teacher who had just returned from maternity leave, and their baby daughter April were found dead. Police said both had suffered stab wounds.

Local resident Harper Clark told 7NEWS the discovery had shaken the neighbourhood.

“It’s quite sad to know… it’s horrible,” she said.

Detectives now believe Seers intentionally ran into the path of the car after leaving the house.

“There are some witness accounts that suggest he was running towards where he was hit by the car and already had some injuries to the neck area,” Detective Superintendent Chris Ahearn said.

Forensic officers have spent the day retracing his movements, placing dozens of evidence markers along a trail stretching from the home to the main road. Investigators are appealing for any dashcam vision that may show Seers in the moments before the collision.

Paterson had recently returned to work at Windaroo State School, where colleagues have been left devastated.

Police are also examining whether Seers had a significant history of mental health issues.

He remains under police guard at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, where detectives are waiting to interview him.
