On Friday, Melbourne reporter Teegan Dolling, spoke about the incident on Sunrise.

“(The bus driver) was very heroic because he tried to fight the duo off with a fire extinguisher,” Dolling said, at the scene.

“It was a 19-year-old who was sitting at the bus stop around 9.30pm when two others approached him armed with a baton and knife and seriously injured him.

“He was raced off to hospital, and the duo fled in a silver BMW.

“Unfortunately, that 19-year-old, we have been told, isn’t cooperating with police at the moment.”

The bus driver is said to be “OK” following the incident.

It comes after the Victorian state parliament debated new youth crime legislation overnight.

“We are in a youth crime crisis here and overnight the Upper House were debating the new youth crime bill they were trying to pass through (Parliament),” Dolling said.

“There were 600 amendments the opposition was trying to get through, and hopefully later this morning we’ll find out if it was successful in passing.”

Knox Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
