A warning - the details of this story are terribly confronting.

A candlelight vigil will be held as a community rally behind a grieving academic after his young daughter was allegedly murdered by his wife.

People have been asked to gather and remember 10-year-old Sophie Wang at the Gold Coast on Friday.

Floral tributes have been laid outside Sophie’s Emerald Lakes home in Carrara where her father Yun Wang found his daughter when he reportedly returned from work on Tuesday night.

Sophie’s mother, 46-year-old Yingying Xu, was arrested in a nearby street hours later and charged with murder.

The local community will gather to remember Sophie at an hour-long vigil from 4pm at Emerald Lakes’ The Boulevard on Friday.

“The incident on the Gold Coast is just heartbreaking and I want to acknowledge the family, the friends, the school friends, the school community - in fact, the whole Gold Coast community,” Health Minister Shannon Fentiman said.

“These sorts of events do impact the entire community.”

Xu was remanded in custody after her case was raised in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday and adjourned until November 29.

Police said it was continuing to investigate the motive of the alleged homicide, including the social media activity of the accused.

“I ... want to acknowledge the first responders. The police have said what a confronting scene that was,” Ms Fentiman said.

“We’ll work with police. The mother is in custody. There’s a police investigation so it’s not appropriate that I comment further.

“But all the supports that that community needs and that family needs in the days and months ahead - we will be there to support them.”
