Heartless thieves have looted the home of deceased northern suburbs grandparents, stealing their precious belongings, even their caravan.

Heartless thieves have looted a dead couple’s SA home at least five times, even attacking the pair’s grandson as he tried to defend the property.

Gary Histed’s parents have both died over the past 12 months and he and his brother are now the owners of the Hillbank, a northern suburb of Adelaide.

The grieving siblings have been sorting through their parents’ belongings but the empty house has become an easy target for opportunistic thieves, as it has been left unguarded.

“Coming here and finding the house has been trashed numerous times is a little hard pill to swallow,” said Histed.

Once filled with childhood memories and joy, the house has now been ransacked, leaving behind a scene of chaos.

“There were urns on the floor that were smashed. Like they’ve gone through cupboards, didn’t care about anything, just trashing.

“Anything that wasn’t glued down, they’ll try and take,” Histed said, adding that even the caravan had been hooked up and driven away.

Histed once caught a man trying to break in, and his son was attacked by two people wielding a machete.

He has made several reports to the police, but so far, there have been no new leads.

“I’ve got nothing else. I’ve got nothing more,” Histed said.
