Walsh can be seen on CCTV dragging Gerard from the burning home just before the blaze hits half a dozen oxygen tanks in his bedroom causing them to explode.

“I heard him yelling out help, help! So I came out of my bedroom and then opened his door and his bed’s on fire within minutes,” Walsh said.

Firefighters had to lift Gerard from the verandah and carry him to a waiting ambulance for treatment of minor burns.

It took 25 firefighters to extinguish the fire, however they did so within 20 minutes.

Walsh said one of her dogs and two birds were killed in the fire.

Neighbour Dave Nottage praised Walsh for her quick thinking to save Gerard’s life.

“She’s sort of like the queen of Olive St,” he said.
