The dog was “loose”, according to the boy’s father, Basam Hafiz, who told 9NEWS it tore a “chunk” out of his son’s face.

“He’s got a big bite across his face,” he said.

According to the boy’s father, his son was playing with the dog in a park next to the school when he was attacked.

His mother rushed him inside the school, where he was given first aid until paramedics arrived.

He was taken to Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

It is unclear what breed the dog was or where the owner was during the attack.

More to come.
