South Australian teenager on autism spectrum charged with possessing extremist material

A southern suburbs schoolboy has faced court charged with extremism offences.

A 13-year-old boy from Adelaide’s southern suburbs has been charged with possessing extremist material following a police probe.

The boy appeared in the Adelaide Youth Court via video link on Thursday where it was heard the teenager is on the autism spectrum.

Prosecutors told the court they were concerned about the teen’s mental health and that he may be susceptible to negative influences.

No details of his alleged offences were mentioned.

He was released on bail with strict conditions that he report to youth justice regularly and surrender all of his device logins and passwords.

He has also been banned from using any devices with internet access.

The 13-year-old will re-appear in court next week.
