A Melbourne school has gone into a large-scale lockdown on Wednesday morning after an alarming image of a gun and bullets accompanied by a threat emerged online.

St Bede’s College in Mentone alerted parents via text on Wednesday morning that the school had gone into lockdown.

“Message from St Bedes College: Mentone Campus is still in lockdown and no further updates. All students and staff are safe,” the alert said.

The Herald Sun has reported that an image was shared to social media on Tuesday evening of a gun and bullets, with a caption saying “I’m unloading mags on my teacher”.

It is understood the lockdown ended shortly before 10am.

“To our community, all our students and staff are safe,” the school said in a statement.

“At 8.25am this morning, St Bede’s College Mentone commenced lockdown on the advice of Police as part of a Police Operation.”

Victoria Police confirmed they are investigating a social media post that was reported to them on Tuesday night..

“The post did not include threats against any particular school or person,” police said in a statement.

“Investigations to determine who created the post are underway.

“There is currently no threat to St Bede’s College in Mentone.”
