The tall tornado-like freak weather event appeared about 2pm, when Rapid Bay was packed with families enjoying the pristine waters on a warm summer day.

Issi Schofield was one of dozens of beachgoers who stopped to marvel at the willy willy.
Speaking to 7NEWS, she said it was all over quickly.
“A few swags got caught in it first and everyone watched as it make its way to the water pretty quickly,” Schofield said.
“It took with it clothes, boogie boards, some beach umbrellas and CoolCabanas, going straight through where people were sitting on the beach.
There are no reports of damage or injury, and the rare event was over within a few minutes of it crossing onto the water.
“The best part was that it fizzled out on the water, everyone just went back to normal like nothing much had happened,” Schofield said.
