After they got out of the house, one person was treated by paramedics, but the extent of their injuries is not yet known.

Heavy rainfall lashed the state overnight, bringing down multiple trees and cars became trapped in floodwater.

The State Emergency Service (SES) had to help a woman whose car was stuck in water on a suburban street in Oakleigh South.

There is a moderate flood warning in place for the Latrobe River in West Gippsland from Yallourn to Traralgon Creek.

VicEmergency has warned the flooding is possible from later on Tuesday morning and there has been a rainfall total of 46mm across the Latrobe catchment overnight.

The Latrobe River at Thoms Bridge is expected to reach its minor flood level of 4m by early Tuesday morning.

“The situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary,” VicEmergency said.

Residents have been urged to prepare for flooding and take actions to protect livestock and property.
