Urgent food recall issued for service station staple over deadly allergen risk

Customers have been warned over a food item often sold at service stations and convenience stores, with the national food safety authority issuing an urgent national recall.
The Patties Food Group’s On the Menu roast chicken roll has undeclared allergens for peanuts and crustaceans and should be returned to the place of purchase, according to Food Standards Australia and New Zealand.
“Any consumers who have a peanut and crustacean allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,” it warned in a statement.

Food businesses have been required since February 2024 to meet new plain English allergen labelling requirements for how certain foods known to be common allergens are declared.
They are meant to make food allergen information clearer and easier to find on food labels.
