A van spun out of control and crashed into a guard rail in an alleged road rage incident on a major Victorian freeway.

The silver Ford transit van was on the Princes Fwy in Little River when a dark-coloured hatchback allegedly started to follow it at 9.10pm on October 17.

The hatch allegedly attempted to sideswipe the van when the vehicles reached the Palmers Rd overpass.

After a few attempts, it allegedly succeeded at the exit between Forsyth Rd and Little River and the van spun out of control, crashing into a guard rail as the hatchback sped away.

The van driver was not injured in the crash.
