Two people were left trapped in a car after a shocking crash in Melbourne on Sunday morning.

Emergency services responded to multiple triple-0 calls just after 2am, with firefighters, paramedics and police officers racing to Mount Alexander Road in Ascot Vale.

There they found one car tipped on its side with two people trapped inside.

Fire crews were able remove the windscreen of the car and free those trapped inside, who were then treated by paramedics.

Both cars were removed from the road.
