Fugitive Dezi Freeman’s wife could still face charges over her actions in the wake of her husband’s alleged shooting of two police officers on August 26.

Amalia “Mali” Freeman was on the scene when Mr Freeman allegedly opened fire on officers who had arrived at their Porepunkah home to serve him with a warrant over historical child sex offences.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson, 59, and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart-Hottart, 34, were killed, with a third officer seriously injured before Mr Freeman ran from the property.

Ms Freeman, who is not suspected of playing a role in the shooting, ran from the bus that had been converted into their family home soon after the shooting, taking her two younger children with her and calling and then meeting up with her older son Koah, 18.

She was arrested two days later, with Superintendent Jason Kelly confirming she had “been interviewed by Victoria Police for obstructing police at the time of the incident the crime occurred”.

“A brief of evidence will be compiled and she may be charged in due course”.

She has not yet been charged but police confirmed to The Nightly on Thursday that their investigation “remains ongoing”.

It was revealed earlier this week that Ms Freeman was a “broken woman living in fear”, with her friends telling the Daily Mail that she has no idea if her husband, the father of her children, is dead or alive.

“She has no idea when this nightmare will end or if it ever will.

“She became a solo parent overnight and she also lost her home in the process.”

It is understood Ms Freeman is living at a new address close to the property where the shooting took place and that her eldest son has returned to work to earn money to support Ms Freeman and the family.

Meanwhile, the hunt for Mr Freeman, 56, has taken a grim turn, with the search now focussed on finding Mr Freeman’s body.

Cadaver dogs were called in for a five day search of nearby Mt Buffalo National Park earlier this month but no trace was found of the self-described sovereign citizen, who is understood to be a skilled bushman.

Victoria Police are offering a $1 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
