A man has died after losing control of his car and crashing in Victoria’s Avoca.

The crashed white Toyota Corolla was found off the side of the Pyrenees Hwy by a passing motorist about 2.30am on Thursday, January 16.

The 79-year-old driver from Amphitheatre, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.

Police believe the man was travelling north on the Pyrenees Hwy, between the two junctions of Porcupine Ln, when he lost control of the car.

It is speculated that the crash may have occurred sometime between 9pm on Wednesday, January 15, and the time it was found by the passing motorist.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area to contact Crime Stoppers.
