Melbourne police are hunting for answers this morning after two bodies were found floating in the Maribyrnong River.

The body of a woman discovered on a Melbourne riverbank appeared to be bound by plastic, a witness said.

He claimed the woman’s legs and head appeared to be bound by blue plastic, and she had bruising on her arms.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the death was being treated as suspicious.

“We are still in the process of speaking to next of kin and will provide any further updates when we are able to,” she said.

The discovery came just 90 minutes after another member of the public found a man’s body in the water at Footscray about 9am.

Police do not believe the discoveries were linked.

The bodies are yet to be formally identified.

Anyone with information, including dashcam footage or CCTV, has been asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
