All arms of the emergency services have scrambled in a major rescue operation after a horror crash in Victoria.

A car plunged off a cliff and into Victorian bushland, sparking the urgent rescue of the occupant.

Just before 7am on Wednesday, emergency services were called to the Mountain Hwy in Sassafras.

The vehicle went over a railing, off the edge of the road and landed about 100 metres below in dense bushland.

Multiple emergency services personnel were at the scene to rescue the man, including firefighters, paramedics and police.

He was rescued about 8.30am and loaded into a helicopter to be airlifted to hospital.

The man has upper and lower body injuries and is believed to be in a stable condition.
