A Victorian father has died after being shot in a hunting tragedy in Gippsland this morning.

A man has died after he was shot during a hunting trip in Victoria’s Gippsland region.

It is believed a group of people were out hunting in Noojee about 11.30am Saturday when the 64-year-old father when he was shot in the chest.

Police say the bullet was fired by another member of the group who were questioned.

Investigators, however, say they believe the shooting was a tragic accident.

Noojee is located about 40 minutes north of Warragul.
