It is believed that the blaze began at 8:30pm last night.

A man has died in a house fire in St Kilda, Melbourne.

The fire at a property on Chapel St was reported about 8.40pm on Wednesday.

A man with critical injuries was found inside the home by fire crews and was treated at the scene but died.

He has not yet been formally identified.

It’s unclear how the fire started and how the man died, with police treating his death as suspicious.

“A crime scene has been established and an arson chemist will assess the scene,” Victoria Police said.
