The man was treated by paramedics but he was declared dead a short time later.

Loved ones have paid tribute to McKenna, with her sister Meg Trotter saying she was a “completely devoted mother” to her seven-year-old son.

“She was generous, vibrant, loyal, and looked forward to many adventures with her precious son,” she wrote.

“Our darling girl is already so missed, forever leaving a hole in our hearts and lives. Her death was an unnecessary tragedy, one we never dreamed would impact our family.

“Something must be done to stop violence against women in this country.”

McKenna’s cousin said she had hoped to visit her in Melbourne and was “heartbroken” at what had happened.

“What an evil world we live in, she should have been safe in her own home,” she wrote on social media.

“Now her family has to suffer a huge loss.”
