One of the men smashed a front window with an axe before four other men emerged from the street.

Once inside the group caused chaos, smashing vases and statues, destroying appliances and smashing a hole in the door to one of the children’s bedrooms.

Homeowner Rebecca, who was across the road at the time attending a neighbour’s baby shower, said her son managed to hear the intruders coming quick enough to lock his bedroom door.

“They just came in, they tried to kill my kids,” she told 7NEWS.

The intruders were only in the home for a few minutes before they fled through the front door where they ran into Rebecca.

“(My kids) are all shake, all shaken. (It’s) very, very sad for them.”
