Melbourne man allegedly set on fire in Bacchus Marsh assault as police investigate

A man was found with serious burn injuries outside a property following an alleged assault, with police now investigating the circumstances.

A man has been left with serious burns after an alleged assault in Melbourne’s outer west, with police investigating reports had been deliberately set alight.

Emergency services were called to Lidgett Street in Bacchus Marsh about 9pm on Thursday following reports of a fire. A 57-year-old man was found outside a property with significant burn injuries.

He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to the hospital in a serious condition.

Victoria Police said detectives are treating the incident as an assault.

“Detectives believe the man sustained the injuries during an assault,” a police spokesperson told The Nightly.

It is believed the parties are known to one another.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
