A 44-year-old man from Reservoir has been charged with murder after a woman was fatally struck by a car in Melbourne's northern suburbs.

A murder investigation is underway after a woman was struck by a car in Melbourne on Friday night.

The woman was killed on Seston St in Reservoir about 7.40pm, Victoria Police said on Saturday.

A 44-year-old local man was allegedly behind the wheel, and he was arrested at the crash site.

He has now been charged with one count of murder.

The victim, who is yet to be formally identified, and the alleged driver were known to each other, police said.

Their exact relationship is still under investigation, but Sunrise reports that they may have been neighbours.
