The shock of winning the major prize in Oz Lotto is still present for a father in Melbourne who has had to do many ‘double-takes’ after the news he is now $8 million richer.

Days after the winning numbers dropped the father finally realised that his enemy was a winner in the national draw last Tuesday.

A state-wide call-out was issued last week after the winner, who was unregistered, had failed to come forward and claim his life-changing prize and become an instant multi-millionaire.

Speaking to officials from The Lott the man said he only realised he was the lucky winner on Saturday morning.

“I usually only check my tickets on a Saturday, and that’s what I did when I woke up on the weekend,” he said.

“The first ticket I scanned was the Oz Lotto ticket. I had to do a double-take. I was like, ‘What, what what?’

“I don’t know how many double takes I’ve done since. I sent a screenshot to my adult son, and he didn’t believe me at first. He does now.”

The rest of the weekend was a blur as the father contemplated his next steps and the idea he was now able to set his family up for life.

“I want to be smart with the money — invest it so I don’t have to worry about the future,” he said.

The division one winning entry was purchased at Central Station News inside Melbourne Central on La Trobe St.

Tattslotto shop owner Shuxia Tang said last week the $8 million win was the most lucrative prize from any entry sold at her shop.

The winning numbers in Oz Lotto Draw 1601 were 17, 1, 28, 16, 24, 26 and 2. The supplementary numbers were 47, 4 and 41.
