Victoria police say Peter O’Ryan fled a property in Tyers, east of Melbourne, after reports his parents and brother had been assaulted with an axe or hatchet at about 12.30pm on Saturday.
A 76-year-old man and 47-year-old man were airlifted to a Melbourne hospital with life-threatening injuries in a critical condition.

O’Ryan is known to all three people.
Police say O’Ryan, who is believed to be homeless, “is known to take refuge in abandoned properties or outhouses” and was seen around Morwell before the incident.
O’Ryan is described as caucasian with a medium build and dark grey hair, and was last seen wearing a mustard yellow and black jacket and black backpack.
“It is possible he may be armed with an axe or hatchet,” a police statement said.
“Detectives are also urging O’Ryan to make contact with police or hand himself in at any police station.”
Police have warned the public not to approach the man, and to immediately contact 000 if he is sighted.
