Police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after a two-car crash that left one driver dead.

Major collision investigation unit detectives are investigating the fatal collision in Woori Yallock on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Warburton Highway and Elvian Road just after 10pm.

The driver of one of the vehicles, who is yet to be formally identified, was treated at the scene but could not be revived.

The driver of the second vehicle fled the scene.

Detectives would like to speak to the driver of a green Holden Commodore that was seen in the vicinity at the time of the collision to come forward as they believe they may be able to assist them with their enquiries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.
