A shirtless man has been taken into custody after shots were allegedly fired at police during a stand-off at a housing estate in Melbourne’s northwest.

The arrest came after another man and a baby were rescued from a home on Leon Dr in Weir Views, where the armed male had barricaded himself inside.

The accused gunman allegedly shot at police about 4pm on Tuesday. No one was injured but the street was cordoned off and sent into lockdown.

Negotiations lasted more than two hours and locals were told to stay inside as police responded.

“Police are currently negotiating with an armed male at a property in Leon Dr in Weir Views,” Victoria Police said earlier.

“The man fired shots at police before entering the house in Weir Views.

“No one was injured.

“The area surrounding has been cordoned off while the incident is underway.”

The restrictions are set to be eased now the stand-off has come to an end.
