Edelesten, a 42-year-old mother, was in tears as she fronted court in Melbourne on Tuesday afternoon, accused of taking part in an elaborate trafficking plot.

Officers were tipped off when a co-accused allegedly sent parcels of meth from Victoria to Tasmania in October.

The court was told it could take up to 12 months to analyse Edelsten’s phone data to determine her level of alleged involvement.

But Magistrate Brett Sonnet said there is no doubt she is either a “significant user or a significant trafficker” given her home was a “treasure trove of drugs”.

Edelsten denies any knowledge of the substances in her house and appeared visibly distressed throughout the hearing.

Her mum joined via video link from Arizona in the US, and told the magistrate she is prepared to make a mercy dash to Melbourne to help.

The court was told it is not the first time the socialite and ex-wife of late businessman and former Sydney Swans owner Geoffrey Edelsten has been in hot water, but she avoided conviction on previous drug offences.

Edelsten was granted bail on the condition she reports to a police station three times a week.
