Swan Hill alleged carjacking: Man charged after allegedly stealing car with baby inside
A man allegedly assaulted a woman and stole her car with her seven-month-old baby in the back seat.
A man has been charged after he allegedly stole a car with a seven-month-old baby inside, later dumping the infant on the side of a major highway.
Police say the 36-year-old woman was driving with her seven-month-old baby in the backseat when she was flagged down by the man on the Murray Valley Highway just after 11am on Wednesday.
After pulling over to assist the man, 51 , police allege a “struggle ensued” and that the man apprehended the car, a Holden Commodore, stealing it with the baby inside.

“The woman, who sustained minor injuries, and her uninjured baby were quickly reunited and transported to hospital,” a police statement said.
The Commodore was later found abandoned in Nyah, about 20 minutes drive north-west of Swan Hill.
The man, who is from Swan Hill, was arrested by police and handed a swathe of charges including carjacking, child stealing, unlawful assault, driving without a licence, and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
He will appear before Mildura Magistrates Court on December 2.
