An axe-wielding man has been charged by Victoria Police after three people were allegedly attacked on Saturday.

An axe-wielding man has been charged by Victoria Police after three people were allegedly attacked in Tyers on Saturday.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Peter O’Ryan, 48, after receiving reports his parents and brother had been assaulted with an axe or hatchet at about 12.30pm.

Emergency services descended on a property on Cowies Road where they found two men, aged 76 and 47, with life-threatening injuries and a 74-year-old woman who was critically hurt.

The two men were airlifted to hospital where they remain in a critical condition. The woman was also taken to hospital in a stable condition.

After an extensive search, officers found Mr O’Ryan in the vicinity of Tyers-Walhalla Road just before 9pm on Tuesday when he was taken into custody.

On Wednesday afternoon, detectives from the La Trobe Family Violence Investigation Unit charged Mr O’Ryan with three counts of intentionally cause serious injury.

He is due to appear at La Trobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday afternoon.
