Woman killed in Emerald house fire yet to be identified

The fire is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

A woman has died after a house went up in flames in Melbourne’s southeast.

The fire started at a home on Kilvington Dr in Emerald about 2.40am on Thursday.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene where firefighters fought to control the blaze.

A woman, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene, according to police.

Another man and woman who were inside the property at the time managed to escape and were not injured.

“A crime scene has been established and the cause of the fire will be investigated, however it is not believed to be suspicious,” police said.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.”
