A man has been charged with a slew of offences following a crime spree across Melbourne’s southeast which culminated in a woman being shot by police.

The 27-year-old man was charged with 21 offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, prohibited person possessing a firearm and theft of motor vehicle.

A man was home at the time with his wife and six-month-old baby when another man approached him in the driveway.

Commander Damian Jackson said the victim saw a “bulge” around the man’s waist, believing it to be a gun.

The man then allegedly stole the Ford with police immediately notified and officers deployed to find it.

Later that night, police saw a gun being pointed out of the window of the Ford at various other cars on Jacksons Rd in Noble Park.

The AirWing and Special Operations Group were both called and continued to observe a gun being pointed at other cars.

“(The car was driving) at speeds of up to 100km/h and against traffic, really dangerous and reckless driving,” Jackson said.

“They’ve also observed an incident in Albert St, Noble Park where an unknown male in that street had the firearm pointed at him and that male’s run into a neighboring premises and then the vehicle was driven off.”

About 5.30am on Friday morning, police on the ground pulled in front of the Ford in an attempt to intercept it on Police Rd in Mulgrave.

A woman inside the car pointed the gun at the driver of the Ford, with police then firing rounds at the car’s windscreen.

The 29-year-old was hit in the upper body and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where she remains under police guard.

A 27-year-old man was also arrested at the scene and taken to hospital.

Jackson said he appeared to be drug affected at the time of the incident.

The man from Noble Park was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 4.

‘Quite scary’

Jackson said the pair were known to police.

He said the gun being pointed at other cars was “really significant and serious offending”.

“(It) would have been really quite scary for the community and the people that may have seen that.”

Police are still trying to piece together the events of the night and have urged any community members who were involved to come forward, including the man on Albert St who had the gun pointed at him.

“We’re really appealing for that person to come forward, or anybody who may have seen that incident to come forward and tell us what’s happened,” Jackson said.

An investigation into the police shooting is underway with oversight by Professional Standards Command.
