Witnesses, including a nurse, performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took over, however, Caleb died at the scene.

The woman, driving an early model Nissan Pulsar, was found at an address in Teesdale not long after.

A makeshift memorial has been erected by community members who have come together to mourn and show support.

“We came to show our support and show how much we care,” local Mel Sarapuu told 7NEWS on Friday morning.

“We live just up the road, and we’ve never heard anything like this happening in our town.”

Detective Inspector Craig McEvoy said on Thursday that the boy’s family had been left “shattered”.

“It’s the worst news ... let alone being witnessed by his siblings, so understandably the family are grieving, they’re trying to process what’s occurred.”

Covenant College, where Caleb was a student, said the school community was devastated.

“This has come as a huge shock to our close school community at Covenant College,” the school said.

“Our sympathies and prayers are with the family, and we are offering support to them, as well as to students, staff and those affected by this loss.

“At this time, our priority is the wellbeing of our school community, and we are praying that God’s peace and comfort will prevail for all at this time.”
