A late-night car crash in Sydney’s southwest has tragically claimed the life of a young woman and seriously injured four others.

The incident occurred shortly after 11pm on Thursday when a vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree on Horsley Drive in Wetherill Park.

Emergency services promptly arrived at the scene, where NSW Ambulance paramedics provided medical assistance to the driver and four occupants of the car.

Despite their efforts, the driver, an 18-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four passengers were transported to Liverpool and Westmead hospitals for further treatment of their injuries.

One is fighting for life and the other three are understood to be in a serious yet stable condition.

Fairfield City Police area command officers have established a crime scene and are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash, including if speed could be a factor.

In NSW, if a driver is on a P1 licence and is aged under 25, they can not drive with more than one passenger aged under 21 between 11pm and 5am.

A report on the woman’s death will be prepared for the coroner.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
