‘Wedding’s cancelled, venue is not’: Sydney woman puts entire wedding on Airtasker
Three months before she was supposed to tie the knot, a woman’s dream wedding went up in flames. What she did next is priceless.

A Sydney woman who called off her wedding after a year has made a radical decision months out from the big date.
Her wedding may be off, but she won’t be giving up any of the vendors she’s booked.
Instead, the 23-year-old Haymarket woman is putting them up for sale on Airtasker.

“Today I’m posting it as a task.”

Booked for December 20, 2026 at the historic Grand Banquet Room at Curzon Hall in Sydney’s north, the former bride had already splashed out $22,000 to secure everything for the nuptials.
Now it’s up for sale for $15,000.
It’s not just the venue up for grabs.
The venue, photographer, videographer, stylist and a horse-drawn carriage were all part of the deal, she said.
“The wedding’s cancelled but the venue isn’t, and neither are any of the vendors,” the task read.
“Everything’s paid for, and none of it has to go to waste.”
Speaking to NewsWire, the Haymarket woman said she had seen others offering wedding services on the platform and thought she’d throw her hat in the ring as well.
“Spring is a peak time for weddings, so I thought I’d now offer my services to help someone plan a wedding and throw in some pre-organised items too,” she said.

After putting in so much time, effort and money into what she hoped would be her dream wedding, the woman said she hoped the sale would take the weight off another couple’s shoulders.
“I’ve put in a lot of work and time into organising a venue and other items, so I want to offer my services in helping someone co-ordinate their wedding using the suppliers I locked in and taking the locked-in deposits off my hands,” she said.
Her vendors are mostly on board with it, too.
“They are supportive, some are definitely more flexible than others,” she said.
Her family have been just as encouraging about the move.
“They’re also supportive and think it’s quite smart as it’s a way for me to avoid losing thousands of dollars!” the woman said.
The Haymarket woman had the idea to post the entire wedding on Airtasker after seeing others search for specific tasks.
“There’s all sorts of tasks on the platform and people looking for different things specifically around big events and life moments,” she said.
“So I thought why not lend a helping hand in planning someone’s wedding while also saving thousands of dollars in deposits.”

Airtasker chief executive Tim Fung told NewsWire that while he was upset the woman had to cancel her wedding, he was “impressed that she’s turning it into something positive”.
“A wedding is a significant event, and if someone can repurpose elements of it and avoid hard-earned money going to waste, that’s another example of Australians thinking outside the box,” he said.
He said while this specific task was “certainly unusual”, it was “very much in the spirit of our platform”.
“Over the years, we’ve had people pay to watch a movie with someone, help name a child, plan marriage proposals, find long-lost items, and staging as paparazzi for birthdays,” he said.
“The common thread is that when people face a challenge, no matter how unusual, Airtasker connects them with someone who has the skills, creativity, or time to help.”
As for those interested in snapping up the low-cost wedding, the 23-year-old said she’d already been inundated with offers.
“There’s been a few people bidding that I am in conversation with on the platform,” she said.
Despite her own wedding not going ahead, the woman extended her congratulations to the happy couple who wins the bid.
“I still want to see someone else have their special da, and know that the time I put into organising what I have so far hasn’t gone to waste,” she said.
