Weipa fatality: 44-year-old Rocky Point man dies after single-vehicle crash in mining town

A single-vehicle crash in the mining town of Weipa on the Cape York Peninsula has resulted in the death of a 44-year-old man.

The accident occurred around 10.30pm on Monday when a Toyota Landcruiser travelling on Kerr Point Road at Evans Landing veered off the road and rolled.

Emergency services responded and discovered the rolled 4WD and a man seriously injured.

The driver, a Rocky Point man. was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The 44-year-old man was transported to Townsville University Hospital located over 1000km south east from the crash site.

Despite medical efforts, the driver succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital on Thursday.

The Queensland Police Service’s forensic crash unit has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities are urging anyone with information, witnesses, or dashcam footage related to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
