West Gate Fwy crash involving truck causes three-hour delays in Spotswood, Melbourne

Three outbound lanes are closed and there are delays of up to three hours.

A motorcyclist has died in hospital a day after a “serious” crash on a Melbourne freeway that led to three-hour delays.

Two trucks were travelling on the West Gate Fwy near the Williamstown Rd exit in Spotswood when they both hit a motorcycle at 4.30pm on Thursday.

The 24-year-old rider is believed to have been lane filtering between the trucks when he was hit.

He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, however, on Friday evening Victoria Police confirmed he died in hospital.

One of the truck drivers stopped at the scene, but the other did not and was last seen travelling westbound on the freeway.

Police need to speak to the truck driver and are urging any witnesses or people with dashcam to come forward.

The crash caused three-hour delays during Thursday’s afternoon peak, with three of the four outbound lanes closed.
