Beloved author Brenda Walker identified as pedestrian killed in Kings Park
A pedestrian fatally mowed down by a driver allegedly speeding 40km/h above the limit in Perth has been identified as an award-winning novelist and sister of a Cold Chisel founding member.
Brenda Walker, 67, was 700m from her home on a morning coffee run when she was critically injured on Kings Park Rd near Outram Rd in Kings Park just before 7am on Tuesday.
The author of Reading by Moonlight, The Wing of Night, Crush, One More River and Poe’s Cat, was taken to Royal Perth Hospital but tragically could not be saved.

“She was such a kind, intelligent, caring and generous person who had a positive effect on many lives,” loved ones said in a statement to 7NEWS.
“She will be dearly missed by many.”
Tributes have begun pouring in for the author, who also taught literature and creative writing.
“The University of Western Australia is deeply saddened to learn of the death of a much-loved and respected staff member, Emerita Professor Brenda Walker,” UWA said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Professor Walker’s family and friends at this time.”
One person offering their thoughts on social media said Walker “changed my life” and that her death is a “massive loss to Australian literature”.
“She was a teacher who changed my life with her great encouragement and her astute methods,” the tribute read.
“She was the first teacher I remember to really open up the toolbox of creative writing for me - the terminology and craft basis of the poetics I still use.
“She got into a lot of corners of my life because you only meet a proper guru every so often. It tends to affect you.
“Her memory will be a monument.”
Lucas Martins Da Silva, a 30-year-old man from Osborne Park, was allegedly driving the Toyota Yaris police claim struck Walker.
He was charged with dangerous driving causing death in circumstances of aggravation and appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The court was told he was allegedly travelling at 104km/h in a 60km/h zone in the seconds before the crash, and 97km/h at the time of impact.
The Brazilian national withdrew his bail application after the prosecution told the court their case was strong, with multiple witnesses and CCTV.
He will remain in custody until his next court appearance in January.
