Jandakot Airport: Plane crashes as pilot attempts to land as emergency services respond

A man has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a plane crash at Jandakot Airport on Friday afternoon.
Police say the crash happened about 1.15pm on Friday when a VH-POR de Havilland Chipmunk — historically used by the Royal Air Force and Royal Canadian Air Force — was forced to undertake a crash landing.
Emergency services arrived at the scene to find an elderly male pilot on board.

Another pilot — who wished to remain anonymous — said the plane appeared to have lost power shortly after takeoff before it made the crash landing.
“He had no option, the plane was only tree height when the engine cut out,” he said.
“It just banked trying to turn and it’s just gone sideways and landed straight on the ground.
“It wasn’t even nose first, it landed just flat.”
Several police officers remain at the scene of the crash.
The incident will be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.
